RACE DIRECTOR’S NOTE
Kigali International Peace Marathon – June 14th, 2026
1. Purpose and Significance
The Kigali International Peace Marathon stands as a beacon of peace, unity, and sportsmanship, bringing together runners from all over the World to compete in one of the cleanest and green environments in the City of Kigali.
The Kigali International Peace Marathon (KIPM) is an annual road race held on the 2nd week of June in the City of Kigali. First held in 2005, the event has been organized by Rwanda Athletics Federation and the Ministry of Sports in collaboration with partner institutions, under the patronage of His Excellence Paul KAGAME, The President of the Republic of Rwanda. The 21th edition will take place on June 14, 2026, With specific slogan ‘ Bring the World in Kigali and take Kigali to the World’. The growth of the event has brought it to a hallmark event in our community, attracting thousands of participants from across the world and garnering significant attention both locally and internationally.
This prestigious event is not only a celebration of endurance and determination but also a symbol of Rwanda’s commitment to fostering peace and cooperation on a global stage. Through this marathon, the city of Kigali and the entire nation shine brightly in the international sports community, showcasing the spirit of resilience and togetherness.
2. Race Details
Mark your calendars for June 14th, 2026, as the marathon begins at the iconic Amahoro National Stadium, after it’s recent modernization, the stadium has transformed it into one of the most modern sports facilities in East Africa, increasing its prestige and making it capable of hosting international-level competitions and events, the stadium also offer a captivating experience for visitors and locals alike. Participants then run through clean streets around the city’s lush greenery and serene atmosphere which create a harmonious blend of urban sophistication and natural beauty. On their way, participants enjoys the view of the Iconic Kigali Convention center, widely considered as one of the Most Famous iconic Buildings in Africa and among the most recognizable architectural landmarks in East Africa
The event will feature three exciting categories:
• Full Marathon Men and Women (42.195 km)
• Half Marathon Men and Women (21.0975 km)
• 10K Run for Peace Men and Women (10km)
All races will start and finish at Amahoro National Stadium, with the routes offering breathtaking views of Kigali’s vibrant urban landscape.
3. Registration Information
Participants can register online at www.kigalimarathon.org ,
• The registration deadline is set on Saturday May 30th, 2026.
4. Course Features and Challenges
The Kigali International Peace Marathon offers a unique challenge with its hilly terrain, blending Rwanda’s scenic beauty with an urban setting. Runners will enjoy clean roads with green surroundings, offering a memorable experience with no obstacles to hinder their progress.
To ensure participant safety, medical teams and ambulances will be stationed along the course, ready to respond to any emergencies.

Winners in each race category will be awarded, with prize money for the first Finishers following details bellow :

Every other participant will receive a participation medal:
• Gold medals for Full Marathon finishers.
• Silver medals for all other participants.
In addition, participants will have access to a certificate of participation indicating their names and performances on the event’s website using their bib numbers as a login code.
6. Participant Benefits
All participants will receive medals as mentioned above. Race-day refreshments and post-race celebrations will be provided to enhance the overall experience, ensuring runners are well cared for. Music from different cultures is placed along the course so as you run, you are also entertained.
7. Logistics and Support
For the convenience of participants:
• Invited Gold status World class athletes will be provided with free accommodation and local transportation by the organizers.
• Other participants are responsible for arranging their stay in Kigali.
• Along the course, there will be seven water stations and ten aid stations, ensuring proper hydration and support for all runners.
8. Community Involvement
The marathon is deeply rooted in community involvement, benefiting local businesses, charities, and organizations. The event generates economic and social opportunities, reinforcing Rwanda’s commitment to supporting local communities through sports.
9. Safety and Security
Ensuring the safety and security of all participants is our top priority. The marathon will be fully supported by security personnel and emergency services, guaranteeing a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.
