On Sunday May 21st 2017, Rwanda is hosting the 13th Edition of the Kigali International Peace Marathon.
The first edition of this annual event was held in 2005 under the patronage of His Excellence Paul KAGAME, President of The Republic of Rwanda and has since been annually organized by the Ministry of Sports and Culture in partnership with the Rwanda Athletics Federation.
It is with great pleasure that I welcome all participants to the 13th edition of the KIPM.
We believe that through sports, the Kigali International Peace Marathon continues to grow bigger as we look forward towards a peaceful world, and has also been playing an important role in raising Rwanda’s sports profile. The Annual Event brings together runners, volunteers and supporters from the country as well as from abroad both regionally and internationally. Today we are proud to say that the Kigali International Peace Marathon has become a “Can’t miss event”.
It is worth noting that the Kigali International Peace Marathon is the only marathon organized in the World under the theme of Peace. Massive participation enables us to continuously improve the marathon year after year.
Rwanda is committed to continuing to increase the level of organization to enhance its to rival other regional big marathons. This edition of Kigali International Peace Marathon will feature Three-race categories which are further divided along gender lines. These are:

  • Full Marathon of 42,196 km for both male and female
  • Half-Marathon of 21,098 km for both male and female
  • 7 km Run for peace

I take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to His Excellency Paul KAGAME the President of the Republic of Rwanda for His personal support to the development of sports in Rwanda and particularly to the success of Kigali International Peace Marathon. I also wish to recognize international and local partners for their contribution to the growth of Athletics and as well as the success of the Kigali International Peace Marathon. We highly value your support and do believe that we will continue walking this exciting journey together.
Once again I would like to sincerely thank you for choosing to take part in the 2017 Kigali International Peace Marathon. We promise to deliver a memorable experience to all participants.
